Learn Garo

Garo language is spoken mainly in Meghalaya,Assam,Tripura and Bangladesh. This language belongs to Tibeto-Burman language family.Below are some of the commonly used Garo words.

* While speaking this language, a glottal stop or pause is to be maintained when there is a word with apostrophe or dot.

For Example:   Na'a [ pronounced with glottal stop na'(glottal stop)a]
*Remember glottal stop is a not a long stop, it's a short stop while in smooth conversation.

Or

*( A Glottal stop is a consonant formed by audible release of airstream
 after complete closure of the glottis.)

    2. Maina nanga? is not "What do you want?" It's more like "why do you want?"

      Say for eg, Son:Angna tangka nangachim.
      Mother: Maina nanga?

      Meaning- Son: I wanted some money.
      Mother: Why do you want it?

      What do you want means, Maiko nanga? Or Maiko nangachim? If you want to say it more politely.
